Melbourne, renowned for its vibrant culture and urban charm, also boasts a surprising connection to the world of viticulture through its nearby vineyards. Just a leisurely drive away from the bustling cityscape, the Melbourne vineyards offer a serene escape into the picturesque landscapes of rolling hills and lush valleys. These vineyards are not only a testament to the region’s microclimates and rich soil diversity but also a testament to the artistry of winemaking. Whether one seeks the bold flavors of Shiraz or the delicate nuances of Chardonnay, Melbourne’s vineyards provide a delightful journey for both wine enthusiasts and those seeking to revel in the tranquility of the countryside.

20 acres of vineyard situated on both northern and southern slopes of the property, consisting of 16 acres of shiraz and 4 acres of viognier with a splash of Marsanne and Sauvignon blanc mixed in.
Their unique soils are the backbone of the property consisting of ‘basaltic’ derived clay topsoil with underlying chalky limestone (perfectly suited for shiraz and viognier).
The steep Southern slope is where the original 2-acre plantings of shiraz (1984) are terraced into the top of the hill overlooking the Maribyrnong river. This is the cooler side of the property and shows off cooler characters with white pepper, chalky tannins and a subtler depth of flavours.
The Northern slope consists of the other 14 acres of shiraz and 4 acres of densely planted viognier. This is the warmer side of the property and likes to show off its black pepper, spice and supple tannins.

Set upon the beautiful fields of country grass, wetlands, and mountains, the winery was built to satisfy modern elegance with a rustic feel yet still ensuring guests receive a welcome home feeling.
The vineyard itself makes for the most beautiful backdrop from any angle while dining at our a la carte restaurant or event, creating magical moments.

Olde Winilba was the first vineyard established in the Sunbury region in the early 1860’s. The gentle eastern slope and the rich volcanic soil produced wines which won awards both in Australia and overseas.
Winilba winery was given a new lease on life when the Andraos family replanted the vineyard; and relying on old photographs, restored the old bluestone cellar to its origional beauty. In fact, the original bluestone walls, brick floors and old winemaking vats are a feature in the sales and wine tasting area.
Today, driving along Vineyard Road, you will see the historical bluestone building standing proudly amongst acres of vines, that continue to produce award-winning wines possessing the special qualities distinctive to the region.
